Day 1

Morning 1 - Introduction

  • 5 min - Welcome and objectives (Simon / Alan)
  • 30 min - Introductions
    • 5 min Mapping participants per n project (N2-N5+Nx)
    • 10-15 min Mix teams of N2-N3-N4-N5-Nx and ask them to find out 3 quirky/unknown facts about their work (special stuff) + come up with one group noise to represent the dynamic of NBDC
    • 10 min enunciate unknown facts to the full group
    • 1 min Then final check to see if someone doesn't know someone else
  • 15 min - Agenda of the workshop and any other matter
  • 5 min - Present timeline of the project and get inputs from each N team
    • Presentation of timeline
    • Add events to timeline (using post its)
  • 15 min - Brainstorm in table groups (10 min) about what should be the absolute 'must-achieve' objectives of the NBDC (where should we be by end of 2013) - Plenary results 10 min.
  • 15 min - Presentation of the program logic / impact narrative / general OLM (Alan)
  • (During coffee break)

Morning 2 - Looking at our project OLMs

  • 90 min. Review your project OLM: Building upon existing information, capacities, network, what should we try to achieve?
    • Look at your project OLM and review:
      • What has been achieved (in your individual N-project)?
      • What has not been achieved (in your individual N-project)?
    • Look at global OLM and prepare a set of cards for:
      • What really needs to be achieved / documented (from your original OLM or otherwise)? What other gaps have to be addressed in the global OLM?
        • What is missing to achieve this?
        • What is your legacy to do this (what do you already have)?
      • Where does this fit in the overall OLM? (you need to place this back on the global OLM picture)
    • (If you have time) consider other gaps:
      • Gender
      • Communication
      • Coordination

Afternoon 1

  • 60 min - Presentation of OLM reviews from each N project
  • 30 min - Tease out key 'patterns' for the integration of the project (plenary - collective exercise) around the big picture OLM

Afternoon 2

  • 45 min - Commentary by Alan, Doug, Simon, Pamela about the key integration areas and how to address big gaps - towards NBDC OLM.
  • 45 min - In mixed groups: "how to capitalize on and prioritize all existing ideas and assets to address big gaps, issues or opportunities": How to bring our legacy forward into development thinking and action?
    • What could/should be the main areas of our work? Stick your ideas on the OLM wall and task a group to present these ideas the next day.
  • 15 min - Close (final impressions from volunteers).

Day 2

Morning 3

  • 45 min - Presentation of the big ideas and decisions by Alan/Simon about what should be prioritized.
  • 45 min - Discussion about priorities + instructions for group work.

Morning 4

  • 90 min - Develop action plans around the different work strands - Where do we want to be around this strand by end of 2013?

Afternoon 3

  • 90 min - Group work continued and final presentation of plans

Afternoon 4

  • 60 min - What needs to be evaluated / documented to assess, quantify, evaluate and communicate outputs, outcomes/changes and impact.
    • Concrete opportunities to seize next
      • Next team meeting: thematic discussion (and subsequent thematic discussions)
      • Institutional histories workshop Nov 2012
      • Stakeholder workshop Feb 2013
      • National platform meetings later
    • Open Space / Parking lot + cross-cutting issues (cross-basin learning) + coordination + sustainability / exit strategy + addressing legacy for each N-project
  • 30 min - Summary, final impressions, close.
